On Wednesday, the National Convention Committee on Zoning of the #PeoplesDemocraticParty is expected to meet to determine the zoning of national offices ahead of the party’s convention slated for next month.

The zoning of national offices by Nigeria’s major political parties, especially the chairmanship post, is a major determinant of where the presidential slot will be zoned during election cycles.

The PDP introduced rotational zoning at the outset of the Fourth Republic to ensure equity in the distribution of offices, starting from the presidential level to the party level.

This format has since been adopted by most political parties in the county, including the ruling #AllProgressivesCongress.

However, speculation is rife that the PDP might break with tradition by zoning the chairmanship post to the south, effectively paving the way for a candidate of northern extraction to contest the #2023presidentialelection.

This will go against the expectations of most southerners who believe that it is the turn of the region to produce the next president.

Peter Obi, former governor of #AnambraState and vice-presidential candidate of the #PDP in the 2019 election, discusses the #PDPzoning formula ahead of its convention.

He also discusses Nigeria’s burgeoning debt stock and what the country must do to improve revenue in order to avoid a crippling debt default.
